International Crisis Aid is a St. Louis based non-for-profit organization that is working to help with the recent earthquake in Haiti. If you're like me you want to help, but don't now how. PLEASE READ to learn how you CAN help.
International Crisis Aid (www.crisisaid.org) is a St. Louis based international relief organization. We are working toward major relief efforts in Haiti. Funding is our biggest need, so if you are able to take up a collection, that would be a tremendous blessing.
We are working to set up one or more refugee camps and a large triage medical clinic. We are partnering with Grace International Church with Bishop Joel Juene. The first refugee camp will be established on the church compound. The compound is in an area called Carre Four Haiti. We are told this was the epicenter for the earthquake. They have a children’s home, school and medical clinic on the church compound.
ICA President Pat Bradley and a few others are scheduled to fly to Haiti Sunday Jan 17th, but that is only if their charter isn’t canceled. Otherwise, we will leave on the first commercial flight available. Pat’s in Florida now, just waiting and working the phones to find a flight.
After the initial crisis settles, we will be looking at long term rebuilding projects in Haiti. We believe in holistic development projects, so after the initial crisis aid, we plan to implement some of our other long-term programs. (see website)
As we do in all of our crisis relief efforts, ICA plans to buy everything in country (as much as possible). Because of the situation, the infrastructure is shattered. The cost of shipping donated goods ends up costing more than just purchasing goods in country in most situations. It is logistically much better as well as we are able to bypass shipping large containers and customs. Therefore, we are asking churches, schools, businesses and communities to consider taking up a monetary collection toward our efforts.
For now, we are not requesting volunteers to go with us. We will determine if that is a need once we arrive. Instead, we ask that people consider volunteering by hosting a fundraising project for this cause. All donations made for this cause will be designated and are 100% tax deductible.
However, it is possible that we may be seeking licensed doctors and nurses in the weeks and months to come.
Donations are accepted on our secure website, or you can mail a check to ICA c/o Aid for Haiti to P.O. Box 510167 St. Louis, MO 63151.
